Are you the kind of girl who loves beauty trends but always ends up wearing a ‘safe’ black eye liner and berry lip combo? Then here’s your chance to push your makeup boundaries. A bright liner is the perfect way to experiment with colour (without going OTT). Click on the gallery below for a step-by-step guide on how to amp up your eyeliner.
Prior to applying any make up on, wash and moisturise your face.
After applying moisturiser, foundation and concealer, dab highlighter on cheekbones, brow bones and your Cupid’s bow to define bone structure and create a holiday glow. “Avoid highlighter on the tip of your forehead or nose-it’ll give a shiny, sweaty look” explains make-up artist Daleen Stewart.
Line your entire eye with a blendable eye liner pencil. “Smudge with fingers all the way around, especially at the upper eyelid” says Daleen. Find the right spring hue; turquoise is great on blondes, cobalt suits darker skin and teal (which Nandi is rocking) is gorgeous on everyone.
Next up: blusher. Using a large powder brush, “apply blusher just below the apples of the cheeks, so it’s not too circular” suggests Daleen. “If it’s too strong, dab on foundation and blend”. You should look naturally flushed, like you’ve been for a brisk walk.
Lightly coloured lips won’t compete with your bold eyes – pink with teal flatters most skin types. Prep lips by rubbing with a toothbrush soaked in lip balm, then apply three layers of a lip tint or light lipstick. Going outdoors? Choose one with SPF.
And there we go, goodbye black liner! Nandi Phagumede looks gorgeous in her turquoise line and natural lip.
