Of Course Lady Gaga Wore This Designer to Perform for the Royal Family

December 10, 2016

Meeting—and certainly performing for—the British Royal Family is a very high-pressure situation. So it’s no surprise that Lady Gaga turned to her stylist/current designer obsession for her recent trip to sing at the Royal Variety Performance where she graced the stage for Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Anyone who’s been following her style will know the designer in question is Brandon Maxwell, who Gaga’s been spotted wearing repeatedly, most recently at the British Fashion Awards.

For this royal occasion, Gaga chose the closing dress of Maxwell’s spring 2017 runway show: a blush-coloured, floor-length number with a high neckline and exaggerated bow detail in the back. But that was the only exaggerated thing about the look. Her ensemble was sleek, unfussy, minimal almost—honestly, we’ve seen Gaga outfits that were more over-the-top at the airport. But for this special honour, her selection was refreshingly different, elegant, and stunning. And, as always, we can appreciate anyone whose style choices keep us on our toes.
