This Model Wants to Fix Bikini Shopping as a "Thick Woman"

November 6, 2017

Generally, we can agree that bikini shopping isn’t an activity most of us would describe as fun. But for women with larger busts and curvier hips, finding a suit that fits can be particularly tricky. Model Sonny Turner highlighted the struggle on Instagram yesterday, discussing her challenge to find suits at popular stores that fit her body type.

“I am wearing the largest size from one of the most popular high street stores,” she shared below a photo of herself trying on a swimsuit. Turner goes on to highlight the lack of supportive and stylish options currently available. “It’s not fair that we can’t wear cute swimwear just because we are built differently.”

Turner’s post highlights the fact that while progress has been made in the fashion industry to include women of all body types, there is still a long way to go. Clearly, the conversation has begun thanks to those like Turner, who call for accountability from the biggest brands. While many have yet to provide a full range of sizes, some like Target and Forever 21 have made moves in the right direction.

See Sonny’s full post below, and then shop a few brands doing plus-size swimwear right.
